Might it be worth constructing a separate category for this (and similar)- such as "Surviving Stationary Steam Engines" - to distinguish from the "Stationary Steam Engines" category which is an index of makers of such engines?

Might be a good idea. There would need to be sub-categories - by maker, by location, by maker's country, by type, by era, etc, otherwise we might end up with a list which is too extensive to be useful. Something like 'Surviving Newcomen Engines' or even 'Surviving Beam Engines' would be a good start.
