1821 Brewery founded.
1889 Incorporated as a Limited Company. 'The business was established the year 1821,by the late Richard Tamplin, and has been successfully carried on since that date by him, his son the late Pagden Tamplin, and his grandson the present proprietor. It has been determined to form the business into a joint stock company, with view to relieving the present proprietor from the sole responsibility of so extensive a concern. Company will acquire the valuable and extensive freehold Brewery, including two malt houses, with a supply of excellent water, together with the rolling stock, horses, plant, stock, book and other debts, materials, and goodwill. The malt houses are capable of wetting upwards of 4,000 quarters per annum. There are 83 hotels, public-houses, and beer-houses (including two off-licences) belonging to the Brewery, of which no less than 48 are freehold, 4 copyhold (held at nominal fines and therefore equal to freehold), and the remainder are leases or yearly tenancies. There are in addition houses whose trade is secured by advances. All these are situate in Brighton and its vicinity, and are in excellent repair. There is also a large amount of valuable trade with free houses'[1]
