The Model Colliery

1924 The model colliery was constructed for the 1924 British Empire Exhibition under the auspices of the Mining Association of Great Britain; the electrical winding equipment was built and installed by the British Thomson-Houston Company; although the depth of the shaft was only 37ft., the electrical plant corresponded with that which the makers supplied to large collieries in different parts of the country. The winding engine lowered visitors into thee mine was built by Markham and Co, Ltd., of Chesterfield[1]
