1801 Advert: 'TO CLOTHIERS, &c.
THOMAS BADHAM, many Years Foreman Partner with Messrs. GUPPY & ARMSTRONG, begs Leave to inform his Friends and the Clothiers in general, that he has fitted up Shops with every Convenience for seasoning Timber, and has commenced Business at his own House. No. 126, TEMPLE-STREET, BRISTOL, under the Firm of THOMAS BADHAM and Co. where they manufacture Scribbling and Carding Engines for Wool, Cotton Tow, &c. with some Improvements to prevent the Swelling or Shrinking of the Wood from injuring the Cards, by which Inconvenience many Setts of Cards have been damaged. The Cylinders and Doffers covered with Brass if required.— Tuckers on a new Principle; several complete Scribblers Carders finished, and ready for Delivery.— T. B. and Co. intend keeping a good Supply of Yorkshire and ether Cards, from the best Makers. Card Tacks, Hammers, Nippers, and Turning Tools; Doffer Plates, Billy and Jenny Spindles, on the most reasonable Terms.— Turning in Steel, Iron, Brass, Wood, &c. well executed; Turning Lathes made of any Description. Those who will plea to favour them with their Orders, may depend on being supplied with such Machinery cannot fail of giving Satisfaction.— MAHOGANY for Sale, in Boards and Planks.'[1]

THE Remaining Part of the valuable Machinery, &c. of Mr. THOMAS BADHAM, Engine-Maker and Cabinet-Maker. Consisting of Scribbling and Carding Engines ; Tuckers; Fluting Engine; Roving Machine; Combing Machine; a large Horse-Wheel, with Shafts, &c.; Patent & other Mangles; about 1200 feet of Filleting; quantity of handsome Fancy-wood Tea-Chests; Compting-House Desk ; Scales, Beam, and Weights, and many other useful articles. Catalogues to had on the Premises, or of the Auctioneer, Small-Street. —The Sale to commence Eleven o’clock.'[2]
