The death took place yesterday of Mr. Thomas Bruges Gerard, at his residence, 6, Magdala-road, Nottingham, his 88th year. Deceased was chairman and managing director Messrs. Gerard Bros., Ltd., the well-known soap manufacturers, of Gauntley-street, Nottingham, which business he founded in 1876.

A native of Frome, Somerset, he was engaged in the soap trade with his father, who established manufactories in Southampton and Guernsey. When he came to Nottingham nearly years ago, most of the soap supplies used in the local bleaching industry were obtained from London. Mr. Gerard was later joined partnership by the late Mr. William Frederick Gerard, and the business was developed rapidly into one of the most important undertakings of its kind in the Midlands. Deceased continued to take an active interest in the concern until a fortnight ago, when had a fall at his home. From this he never really recovered...(more including image)
