Thomas Chadwick (1830-1886)

Thomas Chadwick (1830-1886) of Bradbury and Co.

Orphaned age 6, and adopted by an Uncle and Aunt.

He served his apprenticeship at Hibbert, Platt and Sons.

Chadwick was one of the strikers at the Platt Brothers Engineering Works in Oldham.

1860 he was involved in manufacturing sewing machines in Werneth

Later formed a short lived partnership with W. Jones - Chadwick and Jones.

1864 Joined Bradbury and Co where he patented a development in sewing machines

1874 he became joint Managing Director of the new Public Limited Company - Bradbury & Co Ltd.

His name appears on many of the patent applications.

He was a local Alderman on Oldham Town Council.
