THOMAS HOPE GREEN BERREY, one of the oldest officials of the Manchester Corporation, died on the 6th of February, 1894, having been out of health for some months, at the advanced age of seventy-eight years.

The beginning of his work for the city dates from the days of the old Police Commissioners, before Manchester received its charter of incorporation. A native of the town, Mr. Berrey was in his early years employed in the offices of the Commissioners, who to a great extent managed local public affairs, and when the Corporation came into existence he entered its service.
