Thomas Lockwood-Bunce, whose special interests were machine tool production and plant layout, has been a well-known member of the Institution since 1910. In that year he became an Associate Member, transferring to Member in 1918.
Born in 1881, he was educated at Halifax and West Ham Technical Colleges and subsequently he became an apprentice to W. Asquith, Ltd., Halifax. After gaining experience in various firms he rejoined W. Asquith, Ltd. as Technical Expert in 1908 and remained with them until he was appointed to the Machine Tool Department of the Ministry of Munitions during the 1914-18 war.
Mr. Lockwood-Bunce produced many reports for the Government, the first being on the application of female labour to engineering and later he advised on munition factory layout, valuation of machinery, etc.
During the 1939-45 war Mr. Lockwood-Bunce worked for the Ministry of Supply on valuations of machinery and in 1941 he was appointed Consultant to the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. From 1941-45 he travelled extensively in connection with his work of reorganization of the Marine and General Workshops and Maintenance Works of the Company.
He died on 29th September 1959 at the age of 78.
