1880 'A petition for liquidation was filed in the Manchester County Court, on Wednesday, by Thomas Metcalf, of Miles Platting Chemical Works, Manchester, manufacturing chemist, trading as Thomas Metcalf and Company, and residing at the Willows, Failsworth. The liabilities are estimated at £28,000. A receiver and manager to the estate has been appointed.'[1]
