1835 Listed as 'Phipson, Thomas and Sons, pin and needle manufacturers, 12 Broad Street'[2]
1840 Mentioned as 'Thomas Phipson and Sons'.[3]
1840 Advertisement. 'Pin and Needle Manufactory, and General Button Warehouse, Wholesale and Retail, No. 12, Broad-street, Birmingham. THOMAS PHIPSON AND SONS RESPECTFULLY inform the Public, and particularly the Purchasers of PINS, NEEDLES, BUTTONS, &c. that having enlarged their Premises (situated as above) very considerably, they are now enabled and determined to offer Goods, particularly such they themselves manufacture, on lower and better terms, for Cash, than any house in the trade. As Thomas Phipson and Sons have no interest or connection with any of the Wholesale Haberdashers of Birmingham.......'[4]
1848 Partnership dissolved. '...the Partnership heretofore subsisting between the undersigned, Samuel Ryland Phipson and Richard Barroll Phipson, carrying on business, as Pin Manufacturers, at Birmingham, in the county of Warwick, under the firm and style of Thomas Phipson and Sons, was dissolved, by mutual consent, on the 30th day of September 1847. All debts due to and from the said firm will be received and paid by the said Richard Barroll Phipson, who will continue the trade on his own separate account...'[5]
