1901 Secretary of the South Wales (Miners') Federation

1931 November. Died. '...His association with the mining industry was life long. He was born in a humble house under the shadow of the pitheads in Ebbw Vale, South Wales, and at the age of 12 he worked down the mine. As a young man, he took a prominent part in local trade union affairs, and 1893 was appointed general secretary the South Wales Miners' Federation. Six years later he was elected Labour M.P. for Ebbw Vale, and continued to sit in Parliament until 1920. He was a popular member of the House, and was made a Privy Councillor in 1918...'[1]
