1838 Born the son of Thomas Sopwith (1803-1879)
1888 Civil engineer and managing director of the Spanish Lead Mines Company of Linares in southern Spain. Birth of his son Thomas Sopwith (1888-1989), his 8th child and only son.
1898 Died aged 59 as a result of a shooting accident on the Isle of Lismore. [1]

He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution on the 1st March, 1864, and was transferred to Membership on the 7th December, 1869
Died after the accidental discharge of a gun on the 30th July 1898.
