ca.1802 Born in Oldham

1823 Married Elizabeth Orme in Manchester - he was a blacksmith[1]

1826 Birth of son Robert at Prestwich cum Oldham; lived in Manchester Street; occupation as a smith[2]

1828 Birth of son John in Oldham; Thomas was a mechanic, living at the Gas Works[3]

1830 Birth of daughter Sarah in Oldham; Thomas was a smith; his wife was Elizabeth[4]

1830 Set up business in Oldham, making gas meters (and probably other work)

1841 Thomas West (age 35), meter maker, lived in Prestwich cum Oldham with Martha West 40, Sarah West 11[5]

1845 February 21st. Died age 43, gas meter manufacturer, Union Street, Oldham, treasurer of the Oldham Lyceum.[6]

The business was presumably carried on by his elder son, Robert.
