Thomas Wood of Fairmount Machine Works, Philadelphia, USA

He immigrated to the USA from Leeds, England in 1830, and was apprenticed as a millwright to Brown & McLeod of Philadelphia. In 1839 he founded the Fairmount Machine Works with his brother John Wood. He retired in 1888, and died on 30 April 1899, age 85, in Philadelphia [1] [2]
