Thomas Yeo Sherwell, who died on 14th June 1957 at the age of 74, received his education at Bedford County School and University College, London, and served an apprenticeship with Mather and Platt, Ltd., Manchester.

In 1905 he was put in charge of the erection and operation of electrically driven centrifugal pumps, with Mather and Platt, and from 1906 to 1911 he was sole Technical Representative of the same company's Canadian Agents in Montreal.

He then became Manager of the Pump Department of Allis Chalmers in Toronto, and in 1915 returned to Britain as Manager of the Pump Department of Mather and Platt in Manchester.

In 1920 he became a Special Director, and in 1927 he was appointed a Director with a seat on the board of Mather and Platt, Ltd.

Mr. Sherwell was elected a Member of the Institution in 1929.
