1878 September: a paper was written by Sidney Gilchrist Thomas and his cousin Percy Gilchrist on the "Elimination of Phosphorus in the Bessemer Converter" for the autumn meeting of the Iron and Steel Institute but was not read till May 1879.

1882 Reference to the Thomas - Gilchrist process of Steel Making.[1]
