1842 Bankruptcy. '... a Fiat in Bankruptcy awarded and issued forth against George Annesley Thompson and Benjamin James Thompson, of Wylam, in the county of Northumberland, Iron Masters, Iron Founders, and Engine Manufacturers, Dealers, Chapmen, and Copartners, carrying on trade at Wylam aforesaid, under the firm of Thompson Brothers...'[1]
1842 Advert: 'WYLAM IRON WORKS. TO ENGINE BUILDERS, IRON MANUFACTURERS, SMITHS AND OTHERS. TO BE SOLD BY AUCTION, (by Order the Assignees of Geo. A. Thompson and Benjamin James Thompson, Bankrupts,) on the Premises, WYLAM IRON WORKS...THE WHOLE of the STOCK and IMPLEMENTS used in the Locomotive Engine Manufactory and Iron Works, consisting of an High Pressure Steam Engine of Seven Horses Power, with Boiler complete, self-acting and common Lathes; Screwing, Drilling, Planeing and Nut Shaping Machines, Fan Blast, Punching Machine, Drilling Presses, Smith's Bellows, Anvils, Vices, Screw Presses, Cranes, Screw Stocks, Taps and and Dies adapted to Whitworth's Bolts, Two Boxes of Whitworth's Screw Stocks, Taps and Dies, Fitter's and Smith's Tools of all Descriptions, Boiler Maker's Tools, Lathe Tools, Rivets, Scale Beams and Weights, Two Pair of Iron Blocks, Shear Legs with Winch complete. Furnace Irons, Lamps, Cinder Grapes, Shovels, Picks, Jack Screws, Blacksmith's Portable Hearth, Facing Planes, Iron and Wood Templates, Malleable Iron and Steel, Old Cast and Malleable Iron; Oil, Tallow, and other Stores; Wood Patterns for Locomotive Engines, Cast Mould for Boilers, Grindstone, Wheelbarrows, Pails, &c.; Cast and Malleable Tramplates, Iron Stone, Tubs and Trams; Eight Half-Chaldron Ironstone Waggons; Fire Bricks for Furnace Hearth; sundry Timber, a Gin complete, a Quantity of rough Fire Clay, Iron Stone, Splint Coal, and No. 4 Pig Iron ; about Fifty Coke, Four excellent Ironstone Carts, Water Cart, &c. &c. Also, TWO NEW LOCOMOTIVE ENGINE BOILERS, with Copper Fire Boxes and Four Cylinders to suit. Together with the FURNITURE in the offices, comprising Mahogany Double Desk with Drawers, Painted Desks, Drawing and other Tables, Chairs, Stools, Presses, Eight-Day Time Piece, and a LARGE MALLEABLE IRON SAFE....'[2]
1880 Partnership change. '...the Partnership, heretofore subsisting between Andrew Thompson and us the undersigned, George Thompson, Cuthbert Thompson, James Thompson, and Thomas Thompson, as Forge Masters, at Dunston, near Gateshead, in the county of Durham, under the style of Thompson Brothers, and as Engine and Chain and Nail Manufacturers, at Winlaton, in the same county, under the style of G., C., and A. Thompson, was dissolved, so far only as relates to the said Andrew Thompson, on the 4th day of January last, by his death. All debts due by or owing to the said partnership will be said and received by the said George Thompson, Cuthbert Thompson, James Thompson, and Thomas Thompson, who will continue to carry on the said businesses under the same styles...'[3]
1882 Thompson Brothers, Seaham Harbour, provided the engine for the Weston Co's lighting of the Skating Rink at the North-East Coast Exhibition[4]
1884 Partnership change. '... the Partnership subsisting between us the undersigned, George Thompson, James Thompson, Cuthbert Thompson, and Thomas Thompson, as Forge Masters, at Dunstan, near Gateshead, in the county of Durham, under the style or firm of Thompson Brothers, and as Engine and Chain and Nail Manufacturers, at Winlaton, in the same county, under the style or firm of G. C. and A. Thompson, was dissolved, by effluxion of time, on the 1st day of April, 1883; and that the same businesses have since been and will in future be carried on by the said George Thompson and James Thompson, under the said style or firm as heretofore, but on their own account and for their own benefit. All debts due to and owing by the late partnership will be received and paid by the said George Thompson and James Thompson...'[5]
1884 Joined with Emerson, Walker and Co, also of Dunston, to form Emerson Walker and Thompson Brothers.
