Thornton Bridge, Brafferton

This is a handsome cast-iron arch bridge over the River Swale near Brafferton and Helperby , North Yorkshire.

Built 1865[1]. Restored 1984. It replaced a three-arch masonry bridge.

1865 'North Riding Sessions .... Bridgemaster's Report ..... With respect to Thornton Bridge the bridgemaster found that the smith had nearly finished setting the iron girders, and the iron brackets and spandrils were daily expected.'[2]
