1834 'REDUCTION IN THE HOURS OF LABOUR. — We are requested by the workpeople of Messrs. Marshall and Co. and Messrs. Titley, Tathams, and Walker, flax-spinners, in this town, to mention that those firms have voluntarily reduced the periods of weekly labour from sixty-nine hours, the legal term, to sixty-six hours per week, but the three hours over is considered as extra work, and accumulates in their favour ; so that they will be able to enjoy all the customary holidays, and the accidental stoppages to which mills are subject, without any deduction being made, on those accounts from their wages.—Leeds Mercury.'[1]
