1866 Court case against them for allowing unlocked lamps at New Bedwallty Pits and this was the cause of an explosion that killed 26 persons. [1]

Henry Davis Pochin was a director of this company, as was his son-in-law Charles Benjamin Bright McLaren who later became company chairman, and was created first Baron Aberconway.
