1961 Formed as a holding company to merge Metal Agencies Co and William Dibben and Sons on a 73:27 percent basis[1]

1962 The 2 trading subsidiaries were[2]

1969 Agreed bid for Devon Trading and Harvey's[3]

1970 Acquired Mercian Builders Merchants[4]

1972 Acquired A. E. Harris, Ford dealers of Cardiff[5]

1973 Acquired Wares and Bartlett, builders merchants and contractors of Newcastle upon Tyne[6]

United Builders Merchants changed its name to UBM Group

1976 Subsidiaries included:[7]

  • UBM-Harvey, of Truro
  • UBM-MAC, of Bristol
  • UBM-Mercian, of Birmingham
  • UBM-Rycroft, of Bradford

1983 Norcros made an abortive bid for UBM builders merchants

1985 Norcros succeeded in a later bid for UBM[8]

1989 Norcros arranged to sell UBM to Meyer International who in turn sold Crosby Manufacturing to Norcros[9]
