Professor Auguste Ernest Victor Dwelshauvers (1836-1913) succeeded his teacher Jean-Baptiste Brasseur at the University of Liège in 1868, after studying mechanical engineering and obtaining a doctorate in physics and mathematics. 'Among his many publications, which he always signed Dwelshauvers-Dery in homage to his wife, he wrote Principes de la résistance des matériaux (1884), which long remained a reference for future engineers.</ref>[1] Université de Liège: Victor Dwelshauvers</ref>
