Victoria Docks Gas Co

One of 13 gas companies supplying gas in London in the 1860s[1]

1857 Incorporated to take over and improve the North Woolwich Gas Works and supply gas to the Victoria Docks and surrounding area.

1864 the company built a works at Silvertown, on Factory Road, which had a wharf on the River Thames and was connected to the railway; the North Woolwich works was closed.

1871 After the passing of the City Gas Act, the Gas Light and Coke Co amalgamated with the Victoria Docks Gas Co[2]

1908 The Silvertown works was closed

1914 Use of the gas holders was discontinued.
