Apprenticed under his father in Cupola Works Badger, Sons and Co

1891-4 Worked for Harland and Wolff, Belfast

1895 Patents on an auxiliary flush-valve steam trap with John Richard Badger and on improvements in machines for sand moulding with Joseph Daniel Duckett

1894-9 John Brown and Co. Collieries

1899-1901 Engineer at collieries in South Africa

Many years in South Africa, in diamond, gold, copper and other mines

1915 Working at gold mines in South Africa; joined I Mech E

Later worked for

Pioneer in constructing a double-throw balanced crank-shaft with circular cast-iron cheeks for Winding Engine; designed, patented, and manufactured re-coiling machine for United Strip and Bar Mills, Sheffield, and other special machines for expediting production.

1952 Died in Rotherham[2]
