1901 Residing at 45 Southgrove Road, Sheffield: William Cornthwaite (age 74 born Sheffield), Steel Manufacturer (Employer and Widower). With his daughter Eliza Ann (age 48).[1]
1904 Died. 'The death occurred, on Tuesday, of Mr. William Cornthwaite at the ripe age of seventy-seven. He was well known in Sheffield as one of the older race of steel manufacturers and merchants, His works were in Denby-street.[2]
1904 Died 'The remains of Mr. William Cornthwaite, who died at his residence, 45 Southgrove Road, on Tuesday, were yesterday interred at the General Cemetery. The deceased gentleman was 77 years of age, and until his retirement carried on business a steel manufacturer in Denby Street. He had artistic taste, and during his years leisure painted several pictures in no mean style, some of which adorned the walls his house. He survived his wife by nine years, and leaves two sons and two daughters. He was connected with Glossop Road Baptist Church, of which was of the founders.'[3]
1904 Died 'We regret to announce the death of Mr. William Cornthwaite, merchant, of Denby street, which took place at his residence, 45, Clarkehouse road, Sheffield. For the last 12 months the deceased gentleman had suffered from the infirmities of off age. During the last month decline had been rapid, so that his death, although regretted by a large number of friends, did net come as a painful surprise to them. Mr. Cornthwaite was a widower, his wife having died nine years ago, and he leaves two sons and two daughters to mourn hi loss. The deceased man, who was a Sheffielder by birth - and his father before him - never came prominently before the public eve, but worked assiduously for the public well in the background. Much of his life was spent in connection with the Glossop road Baptist Church, of which he was one of the founders, and of which he had been a member ever since. The funeral will take pace at the General Cemetery on Friday'.[4]
