W. E. Cowling

1937 Jubilee. 'A jubilee is being celebrated this month Mr. W. E. Cowling, manager of Liskeard Gas and Electricity Company, for 50 years ago, in August, 1887, his father was appointed manager of the company which celebrates its centenary next January, so that it can be said that the managership for half of the concerns lifetime up to date has been in the hands of one family. Mr. W. E. Cowling began his career with the Liskeard Gas and Electricity Company at the age of fifteen, starting as a stoker, and three of his uncles became managers of gas companies. His father, who died while still working at the age of 84 in 1923, took a keen interest in the mechanical side of the industry, and when he relinquished the position of manager in 1917 devoted himself to that branch of the undertaking.
