W. H. Swingewood and Co

From Graces Guide

of Albert Glass Works. Bridge Street, Wordsley, Stourbridge, glass makers

1946 'Mr. W. H. Swingewood, 187, Brettell Lane, Brierley Hill, a collection of miniature glass animals and birds is on view at the Rembrandt Gallery, Birmingham. An acknowledged expert in this particular branch of the glass industry, Mr. Swingewood specialises in the production of miniatures enclosed in glass. He makes his birds and animals from sticks of coloured glass about the size of a pencil which he heats over a flame. From a molten piece of this he can produce strands one-sixth of the thickness of a human hair. His masterpiece, produced some years ago, consisted of a group of a sow and 30 piglets, so small that they could all be placed on a silver threepenny-piece.'[1]
