WILLIAM JARVIS McALPINE, an American engineer of the highest eminence-long distinguished in his own country for the number and difficulty of the works he has executed-but whose repute latterly extended to both sides of the Atlantic - died at his house in New Brighton, Staten Island, New Pork, on the 16th February, 1890, at the age of seventy-eight. . . . .
