Walter Keith Vernon Gale, born 1913, came from a family long engaged in the making of iron and steel. He spent his working life within the industry, and was a prolific writer and technical adviser on the iron and steel history, working with the Ironbridge Gorge Museum, the Black Country Living Museum and the Department of the Environment.
