Educated at Dollar Academy
1859-1865 Pupil at Robert Napier and Sons
Manager of John Abbot and Co, Gateshead
Also at Weardale Iron and Coal Co, bridge building works at St. Peters, Newcastle upon Tyne where he supervised the design and erection of many bridges including the Ouseburn Viaduct for the North Eastern Railway Co.
1870 Began his practice as civil engineer in Newcastle
1881 William Stains Vaughan 37, civil engineer, lived in Newcastle with Mary Amery Vaughan 36, Ella Vaughan 8, Margaret Wedgewood Vaughan 6, William Amery Vaughan 4, Mervyn Vaughan 1[1]
1893 Patent with William Martin Scott and Edward Richards on improvement in construction of girders.
Designed 2 large bridges in Iceland for the government and pier in Rekjavik.
Prepared plans for Alnmouth Harbour.
Director of Blyth Shipbuilding Co and MD of Leeds Steel Works
1898 Elected a Member of the Inst of Civil Engineers
1925 Died in Gosforth[2]
