W. and G. Buszard

From Graces Guide

197 and 199 Oxford Street, London

Bride cake manufacturers, refreshment contractors, ball and rout furnishers.

1848 Established.

1914 The business had factories at Camden Town and Enfield and employed 250 staff.

1915 W. and G. Buszard Limited was incorporated.[1]

1918 A proposed amalgamation with the Aerated Bread Co met with scepticism and some hostility among the latter's shareholders. It was noted that "the companies are by no means identical in their methods of business. While one board appeals to the popular taste, the other has primarily a west-end clientele. One caters for light meals, the other chiefly for wedding cakes for the well-to-do."[2] Nevertheless, the proposals went through and Buszard went into voluntary liquidation as part of the amalgamation.
