1965 Wace Group Ltd was incorporated to acquire Wace and Co, typesetters, process engravers, electrotypers, etc

1966 Listed on the Stock Exchange[1]

1974 The main business was as printing plate makers[2]

1978 Acquired litho-plate making and photography business of Gee Watson[3]. Wace, Gee and Watson (Sales) Ltd was established.

1982 Re-registered as public limited company

1983 John Michael Clegg was managing director; members of the Clegg family took control of the company[4]

1988 After 24 acquisitions in the UK in 2 years, Wace bought a US company, Techtron[5]

1989 Acquired John Green & Son[6]

1990 Acquired Scottish-based label-making company, the Ripley Group.[7]

1990 Acquired Plastifilm Tabular

1990 Acquired Parkway, its main British competitor for pre-press work[8]

1992 'WACE GROUP, the UK printing concern, is to carry an investigation into the source of funds which resigned chief executive John Clegg used to buy into the company in 1983....One area under scrutiny is the source of the money Mr Clegg used to buy into the company when it was a small loss making "shell" nearly 10 years ago. Mr Clegg resigned from the company last week amid allegations that Wace was being used to "launder" IRA funds, despite the fact that security forces said they had uncovered no evidence of such links. Since then, Mr Clegg has repeatedly said that he was backed by his cousin, Miss Jayne Wright, who had inherited wealth and emigrated to South Africa.'[9]

1995 Acquired Ferry Pickering Group

1998 Sold the printing division to its management[10] and the corporate packaging business to Jarvis Porter Group[11], in order to focus on digital imaging graphics.

1999 Taken over by Applied Graphics Technologies of USA[12]

2000 A DTI report described the 1983 take-over as one of the most extensive insider dealing scandals in the history of the City[13]
