WALTER DOEL WILLIAMS was an Associate Member of the Institution for 44 years, having been elected in 1900. On the completion of a seven years' apprenticeship beginning in 1879, with the Powell Duffryn Steam Coal Company he successively filled the position of draughtsman at the wagon and carriage works of the Swansea Railway Company and with the Hydraulic Engineering Company, of Chester, and Messrs. Priestman Brothers, of Hull.
After acting for a brief period as leading draughtsman and deputy works manager to the Southgate Engineering Company, Ltd., he joined the staff of Messrs. Barry and Higham, Westminster, in 1896, and remained with that firm as chief draughtsman for eleven years.
He then went into business on his own account and became the proprietor and manager of the Roman Gravels Ore Dressing Company. In 1917 he was attached to the engineering division of H.M. Office of Works and subsequently was appointed district engineer at Bristol. From 1923 to 1937 Mr. Williams was engaged in private practice and finally he received an appointment as Clerk of the Works to the Clun Rural District Council.
His death occurred at Shrewsbury in September 1944, in his seventy-ninth year.
