Washington Singer
Washington Merritt Grant Singer (1866–1934) was an American-born English heir, philanthropist and prominent racehorse owner.
Born in Yonkers, New York he was the third child of Isabella Eugenie Boyer and sewing machine magnate Isaac Singer and brother to Paris Singer.
The family moved to England when Washington Singer was still a child. He was raised at Oldway Mansion at Paignton on the Devon coast.
He was generous to the University of Exeter and the Washington Singer Building is named for him.
