1873 Sir William Thomson and Professor Fleeming Jenkin were connected with the manufacture and laying of cables off the coast of Brazil for the Western and Brazilian Telegraph Company.

1877 William Stratford Andrews was appointed a Director

1888 Mr Stratford Andrews became Chairman.

1898 The Western and Brazilian Telegraph Co was amalgamated with the Brazilian Submarine Telegraph Co as the Western Telegraph Co; Mr. Stratford Andrews became Chairman of the combined undertaking, a position he retained until his resignation in 1902.
