1878 Frederick Wicks invented the Wicks Rotary Typecasting Machine

1894 James Marshall Strachan became foreman of the company

1899 The Times entered into a contract with Wicks to supply any quantity of new type every day.

1900 Lucien Alphonse Legros started work with the company; he was subsequently appointed engineer to the company and introduced improved designs and methods of production.
