1842 Advert: 'IRON and BRASS FOUNDRY, CHARD. JOHN WIGHTMAN, IRON AND BRASS FOUNDER, BRIGHT AND BLACKSMITH, PATENT PLOUGH MANUFACTURER, &C, CHARD, Somerset, BEGS to offer his sincere acknowledgments to the Nobility, Gentry, Clergy, Yeomanry, and public in general, for the distinguished patronage he has been honoured with during the last 14 years and requests to inform them, that in order to increase facility in the despatch of business, he has taken into partnership Mr. CHARLES DENING, of Chard, with whom the trade will in future be conducted, under the Firm of "JOHN WIGHTMAN and CHARLES DENING." J. W. and C. D. respectfully solicit a continuance of those favours which have been hitherto conferred on the Establishment, and trust by strict adherence to the vital principles of trade, to merit increased patronage and support ; to obtain which, they beg to add that they shall spare no exertions to please all who may honour them with their commands. N.B. Every description of articles in the above branches kept ready manufactured, wholesale and retail. J. W. requests all persons who have any claims upon him up to the 1st July last, to send the same to him forthwith, that they may be examined and discharged ; and all those who are indebted the said J. W. are desired, with all convenient dispatch, to pay their respective debts up to the same date.'[1]


1868 Partnership dissolved. '... the Partnership which has for many years past been carried on by the undersigned, John Wightman and Charles Dening, under the firm of Wightman and Dening, at Chard, in the county of Somerset, in the trade or business of Ironfounders, was, on the 25th day of March last, dissolved by mutual consent....'[2]
