In 1862, Mr. Wilkinson, of Ashford, Kent, possessed a small steam carriage with two direct acting cylinders each 4.5in. diameter and 12in. stroke. The driving wheels were 5ft. diameter. Steam of 120lb. pressure was supplied by an ordinary vertical boiler. [1]
