Willem Benjamin Smit and Adriaan Pot founded the Electrisch-Licht-Machinen Fabriek Willem Smit & Co on 1 November 1882. in 1911 he founded a new factory in Dordrecht, the Willem Smit & Co Electromotorenfabriek ( EMF Dordt ), and two years later in Nijmegen the Willem Smit & Co Transformatorenfabriek (Smit Nijmegen).[1]
