William Arnold ( -1928)

1929 Obituary [1]

WILLIAM ARNOLD commenced his engineering career in his father's works, Messrs. Arnold and Garside's, at Stoke-on-Trent.

After serving three years' apprenticeship with a firm of engineers at Newcastle, Staffs., he returned to the works at Stoke as assistant manager, the firm now having become the Staffordshire Rolling Stock Company.

In 1884 he became London manager for the St. George's Engineering Company, and in 1887 he joined Messrs. Taylor and Challen of Birmingham as engineer and draughtsman.

Subsequently he was for ten years with Messrs. Joseph Baker and Sons, and he then became technical adviser to Messrs. David Thompson of Edinburgh, and later to Messrs. Low and Duff of Monifieth.

Failing health had greatly restricted his activity during recent years.

Mr. Arnold, who became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1897, and was transferred to Membership in 1900, died on 12th May 1929.
