1839 Born in Nottinghamshire
Moved to the British Asphalte Co., Port Dundas (Glasgow).
1865 His experience in the chemical industry led to the establishment of his own works to distil bitumen from coal tar at Arbroath - see William Briggs and Sons
1871 Birth of his son James Alexander Briggs (1871-1961)
1907 James Alexander became chairman.
1919 William died.
