1843 March 13th. Born the son of Robert Butler and his wife Mary Ann

1866 February 19th. Married at Birmingham to Mary Ewing of Dunbarton

1866 Became the landlord of the London Works Tavern, Smethwick, Staffordshire.

1866 December 14th. Birth of son William Waters Butler

1876 Became a partner with George Owen, The Crown, Broad Street, Birmingham, his brother-in-law

c1881 Became sole owner of the business

1897 Merged his business with Henry Mitchell and Co to become Mitchells and Butlers

1907 August 24th. Died at Elmdon, Selly Park, Birmingham
