1941 Obituary.[1]

Mr. William Clegg of "Devonia", Balderstone, a prominent figure in Lancashire cotton circles, passed away at his home on Tuesday after a brief Illness. He was apparently in his usual health op Saturday morning, and attended business, but later in the day he was taken suddenly ill, death taking place as stated at the age of 55 years.

Throughout his working life Mr. Clegg had been closely identified with the cotton trade, and was held in high regard by his associates not only locally but throughout the county. He was managing director of Balderstone Mill Company Limited, Rochdale, chairman of directors of Holyrood Mill Company Limited, Oldham, vice-chairman of Bury Ring Mill Limited, Bury, and a director of Olive Mill, Oldham. For upwards pf twenty years Mr. Clegg had been a member of the committee the Rochdale District Cotton Employers’ Association, and at the time of his death was one**of the association’s representatives on the General Committee of the Federation of Master Cotton Spinners....
