William Edward Gower (c1849-1932)
1932 Obituary[1]
"The late Mb. W. E. Gower.—-We regret to record the death of Mr. William Edward Gower, who died in London on Sunday, September 11, at the advanced age of 83. Mr. Gower was born at Prague, where his father was engaged in constructional work and, after spending his early life in that country, came to England on receiving an appointment with Messrs. Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds Limited. He subsequently emigrated to Canada, where he was actively associated with the marketing of economisers and mechanical stokers, but returned in 1900 to join the Underfeed Stoker Co, shortly after its foundation. To begin with he was employed at the London office of that firm, but when the growth of the business necessitated the opening of a Manchester office, he was appointed to manage it and held this post until his retirement some eight years ago. Mr. Gower, who for many years was an Associate Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, was well known to a wide circle of power station engineers in this country, and was a regular attendant at the meetings of the various technical institutions."
