1837 Insolvent. 'William Ellison Gillespie (sued as William E. Gillespie), formerly of Rain-hill, near Prescott, Lancashire, then of Leicester, Leicestershire, then of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, Civil Engineer, then of Newcastle-upon-Tyne aforesaid, in copartnership at the latter place with Joseph Welch, of Gateshead, Durham, as Civil Engineers and Builders, under the name or firm of Gillespie and Welch, and late of Newcastle-upon-Tyne aforesaid, and temporary residing at No. 59, Fleet-street, London, Civil Engineer.'[1]
