William Francis Jebb

1829 April. Died. 'On the 5th inst. in the prime of life, after a short but severe illness, Lieut. William Francis Jebb, R.N. and Civil Engineer. He has left a widow and five infant children, the eldest under eight years, to bewail the loss of affectionate husband and father. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant just the close the late war, and there is from the testimonials left behind him from officers of the first rank, had the war continued, he stood fair for further promotion, his whole heart and soul being wrapt up in his profession. After the war he submitted to the office of Ordnance a model for the improvement in the Gun Carriage, a trial which was obtained about 2 years since before the then Lord High Admiral, the Duke Clarence of which his Grace was pleased to express his full approbation, and the same is now adopted.'
