1766 Advert: 'WILLIAM GREAVES, Clock and Watch-Maker, on the Keyside, BEGS Leave to acquaint the Public, that he hath with much Study and Labour invented and made an Engine for cutting and finishing the Wheels of a Clock, in a more accurate and expedicious Manner than can be possibly executed by Hand; and hath at the same Time reduced the Number of Wheels, finds the Work made on this Constrution to go more correct than any made in the common Way. Whoever pleases to honour him with their Orders may be supplied immediately at the above Place, at 3l. 13s. 6d. for an Eight-day Clock. N. B. Watchmakers, &c. may be furnished with Regulators made on the above Plan, and at reasonable Price.'[1]
