From Graces Guide

Emigrated from Scotland to St Petersburg as a mason, in response to an advert placed by ? Cameron in Edinburgh. He became chief architect at Ekaterinoslav (Dnieprpetrovski). He designed a number of bridges, including iron bridges, while working for the waterways ministry. Hastie's Russian name was Vasily Ivanovich Geste.[1]
