William Henry Aykroyd

Sir William Henry Aykroyd (1865-1947) of William Aykroyd and Sons was an English woollen and carpet manufacturer.

Born the son of Alfred Aykroyd, a dyer master, and his wife Ellen Milnes

He entered his uncle's woollen and carpet manufacturing business, T. F. Firth and Sons, at Brighouse, and later became chairman. He was also chairman of Hammond's Bradford Brewery and managing director of the Bradford Dyers Association.

1901 Residing at Cliffe Hill, Hipperholme: William H. Aykroyd (age 35 born Manningham), Managing Director, Dyer. With his wife Ella L. Aykroyd (age 33) and three sons Alfred H. Aykroyd (age 6 born Manningham); Harold H. Aykroyd (age 4 born Manningham); and George H. Aykroyd (age 9 months born Manningham).[1]

1947 Died. 'The death has occurred at the age of 81 of Sir William. Aykroyd, of Grantley Hall, Ripon. A native of Bradford, Sir William was educated at Thorp Arch Grange, and first entered business with his father and uncle at Messrs. William Aykroyd and Sons, Oakwood Dyeworks, Bradford. He was elected managing director of Bradford Dyers Association, which post he held until he resigned to assume a large financial interest in T. F. Firth and Sons, of Brighouse. He was chairman of Hammonds, (Bradford) Brewery Co....'[2]
