1860 Born in Sheffield the son of John Devonshire Ellis.
1861 Living at Occupation Road, Sheffield: John Devonshire Ellis (age 36 born Birmingham), Iron, Steel and Spring Manufacturer. With his wife Elizabeth Parson (age 33 born Shrops.) and their children; Anne Brown Ellis (age 11 born Handsworth); John Bourne Ellis (age 10 born Handsworth); Charles Edward Ellis (age 8 born Handsworth); Arthur Devonshire Ellis (age 4 born Sheffield); Walter Archer Ellis (age 2 born Sheffield); and William Henry Ellis (age 7 months born Sheffield). Three servants.[1]
Educated at Uppingham.
1878-87 Studied engineering at Tannett, Walker and Co
1887 Returned to Sheffield in connection with the introduction of hydraulic plant for the manufacture of steel forgings at John Brown and Co.
1903 Appointed assistant to the managing directors.
1945 July 4th. Died age 84
